After doing the previous talk a few times, I'm now working on a new one that discusses baiting. The first point I'm bringing up is regarding safe baiting as it's something a lot of people don't do. So then, what's safe baiting? It is, as the name suggests, baiting safely. To explain it in its simplest form, you're looking to bait without using anything that can tell the scammer your real identity. When you decide to start baiting, begin by getting yourself some brand new email addresses. Pick a different name and use that. One trick I've used is to take the first name of a TV character and the last name of the person playing them. For example, John Wick is played by Keanu Reeves, so you could use the name John Reeves. Get it? Gmail is good for baiting as it hides your IP address. That means the scammer can't see where you're from. Don't use your own phone number. PAYG SIMs are cheap enough, and can be bought with cash so there's no paper trail. Need a photo? You should know by now not to use your real ones. Get an AI generated image, find a mugshot, use a photo of a TV or movie character. Anything but your own image. Next up, don't reveal any of your real details. The best lies are half truths, so for example if you have a black lab called Rover, talk about your black lab called Shep.
The important thing here is that you never EVER give a scammer anything that could in any way identify you.
