I was talking to a friend yesterday who's looking to move. She was telling me about how even she can spot the scams now, and she's not the most tech savvy person. The big giveaway? Wanting money before they'll even show you around the place. I'm not going to go into how she can do reverse image searches of the pictures on the ads as even that's too much of a stretch for her. The important thing is that she knows never to send money to anyone just for the opportunity to view a house. What it always comes down to with any kind of scam is the need to pay for something up front. There's a reason they're known as "advance fee scams". If you're looking to move and the person wants money up front before you even agree to rent the place, walk away.
