This is what the fake breeder website looked like:
For the moment, the scammers removed the content of the fake site, but the domain name is still active.
Note: In March 2005, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) said that owners of .us domains will not have the option of using proxies (keeping their information private), and that it must be made public. Weirdly enough, in this case, the registrant details shows NameSilo's name, associated address and phone number...
Also, according to
https://www.lexology.com/library/detail ... 9a194b93d7:
At the current time, the use of a privacy service or private registration - that is, registering in the name of a proxy third party to prevent public disclosure of the identity of the real registrant - is not permitted with .us domain name registrations and should not occur. The .us registry - Neustar - employs an algorithm to detect the inadvertent or intentional registration of proxy, anonymous and private domain name registrations and is committed to enforce a registrar’s obligation not to offer such services to .us domain name registrants.
All prospective registrants currently applying for a .us domain are required to provide accurate and detailed contact information regarding the registrant and its technical and administrative contacts. Accredited .us registrars are required to obtain accurate contact information from each registrant and to maintain accurate WHOIS information for all domain names that they sponsor. In addition, the registrars are required to investigate and correct any reported WHOIS inaccuracies.
Registering a domain name in the way the above reported domain name was registered is a violation of both NTIA and Neustar policies meant to protect the consumer. This is only a small example of one domain abused at a known place where these fraudsters hang out, while there are many more similar and worse examples on this host. We need to ask what failed in consumer protection and also how accurate are the Registrar / Registry checks before a domain name registered in this way is used to scam an innocent victim. Who is accountable?
