First Bank Texas will provide free, public fraud awareness seminars in various location throughout the year. These seminars will begin May 14, 2019, and start at First Bank Texas’ Buffalo Gap Rd, Abilene location.

Darbi Bratton, Compliance Officer for First Bank Texas, will conduct these seminars with additional sessions scheduled for the Munday and Grapevine locations. During the seminars, scams such as Medicare, IRS and online dating will be some of the topics featured.

Everyone can fall victim to a scam. In fact, over $25 million has been lost in 2019 thus far due to scams. And the elderly community may be the most vulnerable due to their inherent trusting nature. It is with the safety and protection of this vulnerable group in mind that First Bank Texas has set goals to ensure the elderly and their caregivers are prepared to respond to scams. First Bank Texas believes that armed with this knowledge, the elderly may feel empowered and less intimidated by scammers.

First Bank Texas has been committed to serving its community since 1885, and these local banks have proven their stability for over 134 years. As a local, community-focused bank, FBT strives to provide free educational resources to all consumers.

The information given in the seminars will inform participants which types of scams are on the rise and what to be weary of. They will also address what the consumer should do if they do fall victim to fraud and what steps to take. Also, free resources and counseling will be available at the request of a consumer on multiple topics.

An example of what the class will focus on is education to the public. This is information directly from the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and available on First Bank Texas’ Facebook page.

Regardless of gender, age or background, everyone is encouraged to join First Bank Texas’ First Fraud Awareness seminar on May 14, 2019 @ 5:30 p.m. at First Bank Texas 4201 Buffalo Gap Rd. Refreshments will also be served.
