MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — A Nigerian citizen enrolled as a graduate student at Central Michigan University was arrested because police believe he was running an internet fraud scheme, WOODTV8 reports.

Nnamdi Ezeli, 30, was arrested April 10 by the U.S. Secret Service and Michigan State Police for wire fraud, a crime punishable by up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine, according to the report.

Authorities believe Ezeli was listing items for sale on Craigslist. He received payment for the items though he never shipped them to purchasers.

Most of the victims were living outside of Michigan, throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Investigators believe Ezeli was sending most of the money outside of the U.S.

He remains in jail pending investigation and court action, the report states.
If anyone asks you for money on the Internet they are always a scammer, 100% of the time.
