http://blogs.twincities.com/watchdog/20 ... you-crazy/If you’re offered hundreds of dollars a week to drive your car around with a company logo on it, brake for a scam.
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has heard from people who ran into this offer, mostly through online ad postings, and ended up losing money. Here’s how: They got a check or money order up-front — but it was for more than they were promised. They were told to cash it and then wire the difference to a third party who supposedly would design the vinyl advertising wrap for their cars. By the time the victims found out the checks and money orders were bogus — which can take several days after a bank deposit — their own money had already been sent to the crooks.
The Center got more than 300,000 complaints in 2011 totaling nearly $500 million in reported stolen funds.
