Is this true?

I read this on a subreddit and wanted to get your opinion on whether scammers actually do this or not if you end up panic paying at the start of a blackmail scam/sextortion:
“Obviously for the reason that we shouldn’t reward scammers but furthermore; when you pay out, all of your info goes on a target list, and that list of names is sold on the dark web to other scammers. Then your life is a living hell. They’ll be texting you, some offering to get your money back by way of gift card scams, some sending gore, threatening your family and friends.. it’s really bad.

How bad is paying in the grand scheme of things? Thank you

It's called a "sucker list", and it's the same for any kind of scam. Not just online either. It's why you hear stories of people receiving dozens of scam calls or letters a day.

Does this list of information also involve sharing the video to other blackmail scammers down the line?

Nope. Don't confuse sextortion with other types of scams. They're completely different beasts. If you haven't already, then follow the flashing link at the top of the page. If you have, then reread the steps.

Thank you Wayne. Its been over a month with no contact now. I know they have moved on to other victims but if you had to guess, do you think they would have deleted the video by now?

No Guess involved. The video is long gone.
