What steps, if any, have you already taken to block the scammer?:
I blocked this person on skype, snapchat, and imessage. they contacted me
on imessage after i had blocked them from snapchat and skype, sending me
screenshots of the things they prompted me to do while on the skype call,
and demanded $500 to delete the videos and not send it to my snapchat
friends and contacts on my gmail. This is when I blocked them on imessage
and haven’t heard from them again. i quickly changed all my passwords to all my
accounts with google, skype, snapchat, and even accounts they didn’t have
access to (twitter, instagram) while also confirming 2 factor
authentication is turned on for everything.
Are there any other details you wish to share? Anything you say may help
prevent someone else from being scammed.:
They gained access to my email and snapchat during the skype call. They
continuously told me “fix the camera baby” after connecting to a call
with me and abruptly hanging up, capturing photos of my face each video
call. They promptly sent a link to “fix my camera”, asking for my skype
information. The website looked legitimate so me, not thinking clearly,
gave this information and submitted it. we went on a skype call after the
camera was “fixed” and this person led me to performing various sexual
acts, stating the things that i was doing “turned them on” and they
“wanted more”. After this, they ended the call and said my webcam
wasn’t working again. they said we should just video call on snapchat,
giving me their username so i could add them. after adding them, they sent
me a similar link to “fix my webcam” on my snapchat again. Stupidly, I
gave my information once again. After this, I got security emails from
snapchat and gmail (my gmail information is the same as my skype info),
saying that someone had logged into my account. luckily, i got some of
their computer information from this. they logged in from a windows account
and i also gained access to their ip address (i can provide this if you
would like.) i immediately blocked the scammer on skype and snapchat. 5
minutes later, they contacted me via imessage, threatening me with the
screenshots of the video and asking for the $500. i blocked them on
imessage and haven’t heard from them ever since then. everywhere i read
online says they never end up posting the sexual videos anywhere, and im
not concerned about my account security due to me changing all the
passwords and further improving account security with 2 factor
authentication. im still worried about them posting the videos anywhere and
it coming back to haunt me in the future.
