The person is using the same guy's pictures, posing as Marsh Berry
A peacekeeper for the United Nations, based in Sanaa.
Story goes that he has a child - the child is sick - the child is in USA while he himself is serving the army in Sanaa.
He asks money for getting out of the contract with the UN.
That I know of, the "UN" has been asking for over 30 000 euros (over 36 000 USD) so that Marsh Berry can be released from duty.
He swears he's an american, yet his writing is telling that his native language isn't English nor that he's gotten any kind of high quality education to write or speak proper English.

It didn't happen to me.
This situation was posted almost real time in this Facebook group.
It went viral on our country's news too.
The police is investigating our own country's bank accounts.
The person to whom this happened (aka. played along the whole month) was able to get the scammer's real photo.

I hope your friend didn't use any of their real life information while leading the scammer on.
They are dealing with a hardened criminal and I wouldn't anything bad to happen to them.
