Dear administrators,

Two questions always stuck in my mind. I couldn't find the answer.

1. Why does the blackmailer choose to play the video he recorded instead of sending it to you?

2. You said they do not keep archives. So, do they also clean WhatsApp or other chat archives?

It's quicker, plus if they send it you can delete it, so what's the point.

2 and a half years ago I was scammed and they asked me for 5 pictures in bed in different poses with face, which I sent, and I also did stuff on camera (my idea, sadly), which was likely recorded. It happened on Discord and they didn't blackmail me because they didn't manage to get my socials and stopped talking to me after a while, maybe because at a certain point I said I didn't care about others seeing me naked, which was true back then because I was going through some serious psychiatric stuff.

I'm pretty sure it was a scammer because I recognize that writing style now and they also got platform banned a week afterwards, so they must've tried blackmailing other people. But would they still delete my pictures/video when it's prime blackmail material?

Yeah, they would have deleted them by now, 99.999999% chance.
They don't keep the images beyond the shock-factor in order to get the money.
After that, they are evidence of the scam and a liability.

Thanks for the reply, makes sense.

Just one last question, since you're knowledgeable on this scam: have you ever heard of other cases like mine where the victim was asked to take nude pictures in specific poses?

Yes but usually in the case of Women or Men who are above average looking.
Those photos may be used to scam other victims or simply held on to by a sexual pervert for their future sexual fantasies.

Hello,

I was scammed about 3.5 years ago. I didn't send any money. I haven't had any problems since then.

Today, a foreign number added me to a text message chat group (not whatsapp, normal text message) that had 5 numbers from my own country.

I immediately blocked it and left the group.

I don't think it's related to the incident I experienced before.

But I wanted to ask you too.

After all this time it's highly unlikely the events are linked. On top of that, the scam relies on a feeling of isolation, and making a group chat wouldn't do that. Far more likely it's some kind of crypto MLM scam they're running. I get added to groups like that all the time.

"After all this time", I think I am cured, but the slightest doubt makes me uneasy again. I guess that's human psychology. Maybe it's because I'm too well known.

People are afraid because of the reputation they will lose. Is there no remedy for this fear? When will it pass? Yes, I think I am fine, but sometimes I fall into this psychology again.

Forgive me, Wayne. It's good to talk. It's good for the other victims when they read it
