From the fake site main page:

egadgetextra.com was officially launched in August 2015 post the successful acquisition of an existing ecommerce business called ShopLess by Kim Reid and the US based Hedge Fund, Tiger Global.

The business was initiated with a simple vision in mind: To be the largest, simplest, most customer centric online shopping.

The business has evolved rapidly since inception, opening and expanding warehouses in UK, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa, while expanding department selection to over 19 departments across Electronics, Lifestyle, Media & Gaming and Fashion.

2015 was a pivotal year in our history, with the announcement of a $100m investment from Tiger Global, quickly followed by the purchase of Mr. Delivery giving us ownership over our own logistics network, as well as the successful acquisition of our customers.

The year culminated in the announcement that bestbuy.com would be supporting businesses with egadgetextra.com to create an efficient platform scale and building egadgetextra.com into the super online shopping destination in the world.

egadgetextra.com is the most innovative ecommerce retailers, with over 3000 employees. At the core of everything we do is our customer. We are passionate about providing great customer experiences, beginning with the moment you land on our site, until the product you order is delivered safely into your hands.

The scammers were keeping the contact with the victims on WhatsApp using a Singapore mobile number.

The fake site claims to be Best Buy Gadget Limited. The same content was used two years ago on egadgetextra.com (no longer active).

From the fake site:

bestbuygadgetlimited.com was officially launched in August 2015 post the successful acquisition of an existing ecommerce business called ShopLess by Kim Reid and the US based Hedge Fund, Tiger Global.
The business has evolved rapidly since inception, opening and expanding warehouses in USA and United Kingdom, while expanding department selection to over 19 departments across Electronics, Lifestyle, Media & Gaming and Fashion.

We charge a standard fee of $35.00 on orders with a total of less than $100.00. An order that is more than $100.00 (after promotional vouchers have been deducted) does not incur any delivery charges, which means any order above $100.00 is free delivery.

The fraudulent domain name is not only offering products they don't have, but is also trying to get victims advertize the non-existent products:

Best Buy Gadget Limited affiliate program is free and enables members to earn revenue by placing a link or links on their web site which advertises Best Buy Gadget Limited or specific products on it. Any sales made to customers who have clicked on those links will earn the affiliate commission. The standard commission rate is currently 5%.

Now, let's clarify some things: "existing ecommerce business called ShopLess by Kim Reid and the US based Hedge Fund, Tiger Global" - those are real entities and a real person, having nothing to do with this fraud.

"International House", having their location stolen and reused on the fraudulent domain name, has nothing to do with this fraud.

The US location is stolen from Best Buy Store - and they also have nothing to do with the fraud.

"officially launched in August 2015" is a lie - the fake shop was registered online less than a week ago. For the fake site details: https://db.aa419.org/fakebanksview.php?key=132836.

Victim complaint posted online:

Hi!
I am a victim of an online scam and would like to alert others to be careful and beware of the seller!
I wanted to buy an iphone on lazada and chanced upon seller "e-gadgetshop09". In the content it says to whatsapp him at 97786607 on how to purchase. I whatsapp him and he requested to transfer $550 to posb account: xxx then $500 to posb account: xxx before he will issue me a receipt and tracking number.
After transferring, he asked to make another payment of $300 to posb account: xxx claiming it is for malaysia custom and is refundable. Trusting him as the post is on lazada, he provided a valid website:e-gadgetshop.com with the same contact number and his whatsapp display picture was about Allah, I made the transfer. A while later, he asked to transfer another $500 for delay at malaysia custom that is also refundable.
That was when I found it suspicious and asked for a full refund on the purchase. Unfortunately there was no reply from the seller.
I have reported this case to the police and to lazada.
I hope that future buyers will be aware of this scam seller and not make the same mistake.

From a job seekers forum - Jul 21 2018, Frauds/Scams/Incident Related to Jobs/Careers:

I was looking at this offer from a guy from gadgetworldltd.com Claims they need a malaysian bank account and wanted to use mine. I declined suspecting a scam. I tried by saying if i was in charge of transferring the money in and out of the account and got 10% for each transaction I might consider. This guy readily agreed but insisted to share ID. He even showed his IC first along with his selfie. I stopped here and claimed that I didnt want to share my personal information like that and stopped conversing with him.

It looks as if they have changed their name, but not bothered with the design of their site. They seem to be at gadgetworldltd.com.

They put up adverts on the Thai online market place Lazada for a Macbook Pro 15 for about 20 per cent of its true price. When contacted through Lazada they told me to contact them through the Line phone app. There they told me everything about it that I wanted to know making it sound even more untrue. They even said it had three years Applecare plus warranty which costs half what they are allegedly selling the computer for.

I told them that I would only buy cash on delivery and they said they could not do that. When I pointed out that the machine they had up on Lazada was cash on delivery they said they do not sell that way and had to go directly through them.

Unfortunately for them i had already ordered the macgine advertised on Lazada COD, so we will see what happens.

If it arrives and is as advertised I will pay for it, if not I can just send it straight back with no cost to me.

Needless to say i do not expect anything to arrive and if it does not I will warn lazada and hopefully they will at least get kicked off from there.

As I expect nothing I will not repost if I get nothing, but if they do come up with the goods i will definitely be back to tell you all, just do not hold your breaths!
