Are there any other details you wish to share? Anything you say may help prevent someone else from being scammed, no matter how trivial it may seem at the time.: Several things here.
First, I WAS very suspicious that sending money would not guarantee anything would end, and I mentioned this to the scammer. I DID send money knowing I would never get it back (honestly, $600 is not a huge sum of money if it DID result in this being completely over). I utilized the Western Union online help service to ask if a receiver could gain access to my credit card info if they had the money tracking number and my address. The customer service rep placed a hold on the transfer immediately. This complicated things and lengthened the contact with the scammer.
Second, I reported the user on okcupid and skype before I found this site and learned I should not do that. I apologize for potentially causing this particular scammer profile to become a dead end.
Third, when the skype call began, she indicated she needed to install her camera first, but would I like some photos while I waited. I said sure. She asked for a valid email address. I gave her one. I NEVER gave a password for anything to her though. I suspect she used my name and address to get the friend list info off facebook.
Fourth, the blackmail portion of the conversation is almost identical to others I have seen on here. Unlike some of the other stories, youtube was never mentioned, and I never had to click on a link. The video was played back to me as if that is what I was watching on skype. Here is the conversation after the scam was revealed (I have removed my name and all the friends they were threatening to send the video to).
